Setting in road construction chemicals refers to the process by which a bitumen emulsion breaks and binds aggregates together. It determines how quickly the emulsion transitions from a liquid state to a solid state, impacting workability, curing time, and pavement strength.

The emulsion droplets destabilize, causing the bitumen to separate from the water and adhere to aggregates.

After breaking, the bitumen hardens to form a durable, weather-resistant road surface.
